Prayers for Morgan Lewis

After 16 days in the hospital, Morgan was moved on Tuesday to BrightWater for rehab. I did not feel he was ready to leave the hospital. Medically, he was stable but mentally he was not stable. He was extremely disoriented, anxious, not sleeping, and trying to get out of bed. He could not stand or walk without someone on deach side assisting him. He had sat in a recliner at the nurses station for several nights because they couldn't keep him in bed. After much protest on my part with several key people, he was moved.

On arrival at Brightwater, I learned that, South Carolina DHEC passed a regulation about one month ago that side rails and alarms (restraints) would be removed from all beds in all skilled care facilities. Needless to say, I hit the roof. Thankfully, I had hired a caregiver to help at home part time just prior to Morgan's hospitalization. With her help and others I have now hired, I have arranged for someone to be with him 24/7 until I feel certain he has reached a level of cognition to be able to regard his own safety.  I don't know how long he will need to be at BrightWater.

After many prayers and deep soul searching, I believe we must give rehab the opportunity to bring him around. I saw a glimmer of improvement on Wednesday, improvement on Thursday and today. The staff is very capable and kind, although as in any facility, there are not enough of them. With my own people in place, Morgan will not have to wait for attention and hopefully this will help sooth his anxiety, put his mind at ease, so he can continue heal.

Please be patient with me getting updates to you. I am so exhausted in every way and I am just beginning to feel like I can breath. I feel your love and prayers, they are my fuel to keep going. Keep it up for we have a long way to go.

For those that can visit he is in room 415 at BrightWater.

Love you all,

Paula
