Obituary for Captain Vincent Wesley Segars

1968-2020



Captain Vincent Wesley Segars, 51, passed away June 10, 2020. Captain Vincent Segars was a member of Navarre Chapel in Navarre, FL. Captain Vincent W. Segars was born in Valdosta, GA. He graduated from Pattonville High School, Bridgeton, MO in 1986. Upon graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering in 1990, he was commissioned via the NROTC at Georgia Tech. Captain Segars was top midshipman in his class. Captain Segars last position was Commanding Officer of Naval Aviation School Command at NAS Pensacola, Florida. Captain Segars Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance and flying tours were completed with VQ-2 in Rota, Spain, a department head tour with VQ-1 in Whidbey Island, WA, an operational staff tour with Patrol and Reconnaissance Force 5th and 7th Fleet in Misawa, Japan and a Commanding/Executive Officer tour with VPU-1 in Kaneohe Bay, HI. Additionally, he completed a flying tour as a Primary Instructor Pilot with VT-6 in Milton, FL. Lastly, Capt. Segars completed a tour as Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing TEN at NAS Whidbey Island, WA.
In addition to his flying tours, Capt. Segars served as the Flag Aide for Commander Carrier Group TWO deploying on the USS Harry S. Truman Strike Group for a Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf deployment. He also served at Naval Personnel Command as the Aviation Maritime Commander Detailer and as Assistant Captain Detailer. He attended the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB earning a Masters from Air University and a Masters in International Relations from Auburn University at Montgomery, AL. Additionally, he completed a joint tour at Special Operations Command as the Deputy J5 Strategy Division. Lastly, he served as the Navy’s Head Officer and Enlisted Community Manager as the Director, Military Community Managements (BUPERS-3)
Capt. Segars has over 4300 flight hours and has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Air Medal (Individual action and 4 Strike Flight), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit, campaign, and service decorations.  
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Norma S. Vincent of Columbia, S.C. and James D. Rogers and Marjorie Rogers of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; uncles, Buddy Rogers, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bill Rogers, Myrtle Beach, S.C. and his aunt, JoAnne West, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He is survived by his loving wife Alisa Anne Segars (Archer) and his two beautiful daughters who loved him dearly, Amanda Elizabeth Segars and Kaitlyn Rose Segars; his parents, Van and Jean Segars, Montgomery, AL; brother, Shane Segars and his wife, Jenelle Segars, Millbrook, AL; nephews, Taylor Segars, Springfield, MO, Riley Segars, Ben Segars and Cade Segars all of Millbrook, AL; great-niece, Kinsley Segars, Springfield, MO; aunt, Marjorie Gray, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; cousins, Danny Gray, Roger Gray, Wayne Gray and Danette Gray, all of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Captain Segars favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”.
Visitation will be Monday, June 22, 2020 at Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel beginning at 12:00 pm with the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Robert Archer, Robert “Van” Segars and Chaplain Mike Smith will be officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
