Jimmy taught me the Senior Life Saving course when i was a junior at MBHS that got me a job at the Pavilion beach service, the Chesterfield and John's Beach Service for 6 summers... he was a MB Icon to me and a fine man. A Pepsi toast to him! salvo

Jimmy was older. He stood out above the rest. Even though he didn't know me I knew of him.

A lot of young men that served as lifeguards in Myrtle Beach received their Senior Lifesaving certification from Jimmy Wilson. He was truly a crusader for Myrtle Beach waterfront operations and helped my dad put a lot of the waterfront safety regulations and lifeguard requirements into print. They didn't always see eye to eye politically, but they shared a great mutual respect for each other.  He was a fine man and dearly loved Myrtle Beach. May there always be a breeze for you.

Jimmy,

I will miss you!

I remember how you would go out in the water to the end of second Avenue Pier, and swim all the way up to the Ocean Plaza Pier without stopping.

To you it was just an exercise to start the day.

I remember in 1956, after school was out, you and I hitchhiked to St. Petersburg Florida. We only carried our bathing suite and one change of clothing.
We were all ready for the hot weather and the beach.
We were going to get us a summertime job!
When we got out of the car the wind was blowing and the weather was cold.
We searched all day for a job.   We couldn't find anything.
We decided that Myrtle Beach wasn't so bad after all.
We made it through the night, found us a ride back home, and put Florida behind us.

In 1961 I was drafted into the United States Army. In April of 1962 I was sent to Germany.
About six weeks after I was supposed to be sent back to the states I bumped into you in Frankfurt Germany.  It was so great to see somebody from home. We shared a wonderful together, catching up with each other.
That was last time I spoke with you.
You were a great friend!
One day we will meet again.

Your old friend,

Ernie Marlowe
