Obituary for David Boatwright

Myrtle Beach...David Earl Dismas Boatwright passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a long illness on November 23, 2013. He was born at Ariel Crossroads in Rains, SC and grew up in Britton's Neck, SC.

David graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1957. He attended Flora Macdonald Conservatory of Music in Red Springs, NC. He was a member of the USAF Band while stationed in Keflavik, Iceland where he met his wife, Thorunn.
After his military experience he worked for the JC Penney for 32 years working his way up to the corporate headquarters and managing his own store. Throughout his life he played the organ for churches in Iceland and the USA. After retiring, he played for St. Edwards Catholic Church in Stafford Springs, CT and later for St. James Catholic Church in Conway, SC. He was pre-deceased by his wife Thorunn (Tota) Boatwright, mother and father, Virginia Bass Boatwright and Percy L. Boatwright.

Surviving are: his four children, Helen (Brad) Kuszmaul, Jonina (Jon) Chamberlain, Sigrun Boatwright (Halldor Haraldsson) and David Johann (Lenna) Boatwright; his grandchildren, Zachary, Connor, Dillon, Lucas, Erynn, Owen and Daniel; his brother Carroll Stanley Boatwright, his sisters Linda Boatwright Johnson, Vikki Boatwright Cox, Deana Boatwright Brown and two special friends Linda Rogers and Robert Cribb.

David's hobby was his family genealogy and he wrote a book detailing his family history dating back to the 1600s. He was a talented musician, loving father and brother who befriended everyone he met.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30th at the Catholic Church of St. James in Conway, SC. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Silver, Father 'Rick LaBrecque, and Father Tim LiJewski concelebrating. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Internment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Old Neck Cemetery, Britton's Neck, SC.
