COL Jamie Edsel Marlowe Ed.D, a resident of Deerfield Beach, FL, passed away on January 3, 2019 at Boca Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Dr. Marlowe was born in Conway, SC on December 5, 1942 to Claude Blease and Grace Beverly Marlowe. COL Marlowe will be buried at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.

COL Marlowe specialized in Radiation Physics and received his degrees from Miami-Dade Community College, Ottawa University, Ottawa KS, and Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. While a professor of radiation physics and radiation biology, COL Marlowe worked as a consultant to Medical Examiners in Miami, FL, Baltimore, MD and Suffolk County, NY. At that time, he conducted research on subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding into the space surrounding the brain) as a supplement to conventional autopsy in an attempt to rule out abuse or questionable circumstances as a cause of death.

COL Marlowe authored a text book, Surgical Radiography published by University Park Press, Baltimore, MD in 1983.

COL Marlowe served honorably in the US Army Medical Corp from 1983 through 2003. During his 20 year career, COL Marlowe’s assignments included Nuclear Medical Science Officer at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD; Commander of the 1013th TRU US Army Garrison, West Palm Beach, FL; Commander of the 452nd Medical Detachment unit, Miami, FL; and Commander of the 324th US Army Combat Support Hospital. COL Marlowe retired after a 20 year Military career.

COL Marlowe remained active after his retirement and served on Deerfield Beach, FL’s Charter Review Committee and served as Vice Chairman for Deerfield Beach’s Housing Authority.

In his spare time, COL Marlowe enjoyed driving his 1919 Model T Ford and his 1974 Volkswagen Thing.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Joanne Saunders Marlowe, his son and daughter from a previous marriage, Jamie Edsel Marlowe, Jr (Michelle Marlowe), Lisa Ann Marlowe and, his brothers Ernest Marlowe (Aleta Marlowe) Billy Michael Marlowe (Diane Marlowe), and his sister Catherine Marlowe Dewan, his grandchildren Luke, Seth (who followed in his Gramps’ footsteps joining the Army), and Dana Marlowe along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
