Celebration of the Life

There will be a Celebration of the Life of Steve Mims on Thursday, July 13 at Goldfinch Beach Chapel on Bypass 17 in Murrells Inlet.  There will be no service as such.  The family wants this to be a happy occasion, remembering all the fun times that Steve's friends had with him.  They would love for any and all of his friends to share their stories about our friend.  There will be food & beverage and a display board of all the old pictures they can find.  Come with your happy memories from 2-4 this coming Thursday!

Memorial to Steve Mims. Myrtle Beach High School Class of 63.

I am learning of the passing of Steve Mims from an email simultaneously as a memorial service is being held for him in Myrtle Beach. It is not that I would have returned to the beach to attend, but it is noteworthy that I am remembering him at this moment. Steve and I were not the best of friends but we were certainly good friends and classmates. I have many memories of Steve as he was not someone to forget. We traveled in the same circle and I remember him as always have a big smile and having something funny to say about just about everything. He was a fun guy. I remember an incident that sort of sums up who he was and his happy go luck attitude. One night around 10pm there were five of us (David Hucks, Eddie Wages, myself and another classmate whom I don't remember) all squnched into Steve's Volkswagen Beetle when he decided to take us on a joy ride through the very prestigious Dunes Golf Club. He chose to not use the paved roads but instead to travel on the sand paths across the golf links which included several areal leaps into and out of the sand traps, This was, of course very exciting especially when traveling at 60mph. Was this smart? Of course not, but then when do 17 year old boys do smart things.

There are many other memories of Steve and I am sure David Hucks could fill a book with them but I'll just say that I will not forget RANDO.

Wonderful memories, Gordon. A lot of adventures in those days included a hell-ride across the golf course on the way to Rudy-land and ended up back at Fireballs.
