Updates On David Gravely

Randy, Lee asked me to add you to this list. These are earlier updates. David just went into surgery. When they have information to share, I will include you in the post. Cecilia

Good morning, folks. It’s Cecilia Mims, and I am sending you this information on Lee’s behalf. I imagine that you all know David has been hospitalized for almost three weeks battling a severe MRSA infection. He was transported to MUSC on Wednesday for an MRI Thursday morning, and he is scheduled for surgery this morning (Saturday). All of the Gravelys are so appreciative of the messages, calls, love, care, and prayers that have been flowing their way. Lee wants everyone to have updated information and be aware of how thankful she is for your concern, but she is finding it very difficult to respond to everyone on a timely basis. I have volunteered to help her with communications. I have a list of about 90 people I am contacting on her behalf. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to add someone or check to see if someone is on the list.

Update from Lee 5/19

Fully sedated MRI done this morning and they found a few areas of abscess in spinal area and infection in the bone. Multiple teams are reviewing the MRI and we have been meeting with them ….(neurosurgery, infectious disease, internal medicine). Originally thinking that the antibiotics could hopefully, in time, kill all of bacteria and clear infection …but now they are recommending a “washout surgery” on Saturday morning. Still gathering information but we feel very encouraged and we are impressed with the team. We very much appreciate all of the sweet texts, cards, prayers and love. We feel blessed to be getting such great care but are ready to have Big Daddy back on the golf course and swimming in the pool!

Update from Lee 5/20

We’ve just received final word that David will be having spinal surgery tomorrow at 10 AM. It is a decompression procedure and also will clean out the infected tissue. All of the medical teams agree this is the best step and we are hopeful and prayerful for a positive outcome. We will update you tomorrow, but it will be mid to late afternoon before we know anything. Very grateful for your prayers! 🙏🏻

Just received word today that our friend and Seahawk classmate Jerry Strawbridge has been told that he has stage four cancer. We are not sure at this time exactly what type of cancer he has. The doctors removed about 1.35 liters of fluid from his lung and he has imphyema and will not be able to attend the class of 1960/61 get together tomorrow and Friday at the Seahawk Luncheon.

We ask that you take a moment to send Jerry your thoughts & prayers. You can reach him at the email address below.

Please accept my sincere apology for not posting this message on time.

To the family of Randall Brooks Coates, please accept my condolences for this great loss. Losing a family member is one of the biggest tragedies a family can face. Although I had never met Randall, I knew his Dad and uncle, and they are both two of the finest men I know. I know that Donnie and Karen would have raised him to be the type person they would be proud of, know that Randall is in our thoughts and in our prayers.

May he Rest In Peace.
